How to find saved videos on TikTok and never lose them

Finding your saved TikTok videos shouldn't be difficult.

Who hasn't found themselves desperately searching for that funny video on TikTok, it showed in the For You page a week ago? What about that cake recipe or that lifehack tutorial that couldn't be found again? No one is alone in this.

TikTok is an incredible social network, not only to watch entertaining videos, but also to learn new things and find inspiration. That's why knowing how to find good videos according to your tastes is a crucial part of the experience. The common way is to scroll to the “For You” page and start liking and saving the videos you enjoy the most.

Another way to find interesting videos is to type topics of interest into the search bar, find them directly, and also follow content creators who will deliver content on the “Following” tab. Even friends can repost interesting things.

All of these small actions helps TikTok's algorithm to deliver what the user wants to watch straight to them. The more the algorithm understands about your interests and personality, the easier it is to find relevant content.

In short, there are many ways to find exciting videos and have TikTok deliver them to you. But what do you do to save the ones you really like?

Saving videos on TikTok

It's very simple and there are two ways to do this. The user can like the video or added it to their Favorites. Liked and Favorites basically have the same function, but with small differences.

See it below:

Saving it with Likes

By tapping the heart-shaped icon on the right, the video is liked, and this automatically adds it to the Liked tab.

However, this method is not efficient when it comes to organization, as everything gets mixed up together. Likes are more to show TikTok what kind of content you are interested in and want to see more.

Saving it with Favorites

On the other hand, Favorites is to save the videos to watch later or to just keep them in a separate tab that is more organized. To save a video to Favorites, you just have to tap the flag icon on the bottom right.

Now the video is on Favorites tab, which is more organized and accessible than Liked tab.

Videos aren't the only thing that can be saved on TikTok. It's possible to go further:

  • Sounds: tap on the name of the sound at the bottom of the video > Add to Favorites.

  • Filters: tap the white and yellow magic wand icon on the video that has a filter on > Add to Favorites.

  • Comments: press on a comment for a few seconds > Add to Favorites.

  • Hashtags: tap on a hashtag in the video or do a specific search > Add to Favorites.

  • Questions: tap the Q&A sticker in the video > Add to Favorites tapping above the controls.

  • Locations: tap the green and white pin icon in the video with location > Add to Favorites.

  • Products: tap the yellow product label in the video, then tap the bookmark icon in the top right-hand corner of that product's description.

Finding Saved Videos

After the videos are saved, on Liked or Favorites, how do you find them later?

Here's a step-by-step for both:

  1. Go to your profile.

  2. Below the profile bio, tap on the flag icon to go to Favorites, or tap on the heart icon to go to Liked.

  1. Inside Liked, you will find all the videos added in chronological order. While in Favorites, it's almost the same, but with the Collection session on top.

As long as the user has Internet and a valid account, TikTok is working well and creator didn't delete the videos, the content will be there and can be rewatched anytime.

Organizing Saved Videos

TikTok is a platform with a lot of content, where users watch dozens of videos in just a few minutes. So if the saved videos aren't organized, everything gets lost in the chaos.

Creating collections is like turning TikTok into a real personal library. You can create study collections by different subjects, recipe collections by different types of plates and even trend or inspiration collections for work and projects.

See how it's easy to create a Collection and manage it:

  1. On your TikTok profile, go to Favorites, and there you will find a tab at the top called Collections.

  2. Click the Collections tab to see can collections already made or to create a new one.

  1. When you click to create a new collection, you must give it a name. By the name you can determine its category, such as “Cute outfits”, “Dances”, “Edits”, and so on. You can also select if you want to make it private or public.

  1. Then, it will take you to Favorites, where you can select which videos you want to add to the collection by tapping on the circle at the right top of every video.

  1. You can also go to a video, tap on Favorites, and then tap on “Manage” and select an existent collection or create a new one with this video.

Nevertheless, it's good to keep two things in mind. First, you can't add Liked videos to Collections, only Favorites. Second, Collections help to organize better but will not prevent you to lose your saved videos.

The risk of losing everything

Collections can help to organize your saved videos, but it will not be enough to keep them out of the risk to be gone. Here are the three reasons why:

  1. Lost account access

If an account is hacked, someone lose their password, or has their account banned for any reason, all saved videos will disappear with it.

  1. Removal of videos by creators

Even if the account is secure, the videos saved can be deleted by the creators themselves, so then they're gone forever.

  1. TikTok could go offline

Internet regulations are changing and increasing around the world, especially in the US and Europe. So there's the possibility of TikTok being banned in some countries and if it happens in your country, your Favorites would disappear without warning.

It's no exaggeration to consider this scenario. Besides that, TikTok might also shut down completely, like other social media that were famous in the past, such as Vine and Orkut. Actually, Vine is commonly associated to TikTok due to their similarities, as Vine was also a short video social platform.

After investing time, curation, and attention in creating video collections, letting it be deleted because of something external would be a shame. That's why having an external backup is an essential precaution to avoid it.

The solution

A smart and practical way to make sure to never lose your favorite TikTok videos again is to use an external backup. This way, you can create a personal archive that is easy to navigate and is safe to be deleted without your command.
