Sync Instagram Saved Posts and Collections

Learn how to sync and organize your Instagram saved posts with Dewey

Transcript:

All right, in this tutorial, I'm going to walk you through how to use Dewey's new Instagram feature.

In this walkthrough, we're going to use Dewey to pull in all of your Instagram saved posts. Instagram started their saved posts feature back in 2016, so that means we're coming up on probably a decade of saved posts for most of you—where they've just been locked away inside Instagram's saved post feature, never to be looked at again. Today, we're going to pull them out, and I'll walk you through how to do that with Dewey.

The first thing you want to do is make sure you have the newest version of the Chrome extension for Dewey installed on your browser, on your desktop. Okay, I'm going to assume you have that done. If you do, you'll know because if you go to Settings and then to Integrations, you'll now see "Automatically sync Instagram saved bookmarks," and this will be enabled by default. You can choose to disable it, but we enable it by default if you have the new Chrome extension.

Now, we're going to go into Instagram, and I'm going to start saving a few different posts. Okay, let's save that. Great. If I head over to my profile and click on Saved, I see all of my posts. I can click "Grab saved posts" just to be safe, but Dewey's going to do it anyway.

Next, once this all ingests, I'll prove to you that it's pulled into Dewey. Then, we're going to create collections, which are Instagram's version of folders for saved posts. I'll show you how Dewey syncs those collections (or folders) into the Dewey dashboard so you don't have to recreate folders again. We also handle deduping so everything goes to its proper place.

First, let’s make sure these Instagram posts came into Dewey. I'll refresh the page. You'll notice, to do this quickly, I have a filter by source on the side. If I click Instagram, I see all of my new Instagram posts showing up here.

Now, let’s create a collection back in Instagram. I'm going to name this one "IG." It’ll ask me to add some content from my saved posts into this new collection, so we’ll just add a few and click Done. Now, we see this collection called "IG." I’ll click "Grab saved posts" again just to be sure—this does happen automatically, but for the sake of this tutorial, I’m walking through all the steps.

When I go back and refresh the page, you’ll now see a folder on the left-hand side called "IG." When I click into it, it shows all the posts from my Instagram collection. If I go back into Unsorted and click on Instagram, I’ll see all my other saved posts that don’t belong to a collection or folder in Dewey.

And that’s pretty much it—it’s straightforward. You can bookmark or save posts from your Instagram mobile app, and Dewey will automatically look for any new saved posts once you’re back on your browser. It’ll pull them in for you as long as you’ve left that enabled in Settings. Just go to Settings > Integrations and leave this enabled—don’t click disable unless you want to.

So that’s it. Enjoy!
